Please note: The first class on Aug. 3 will meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and the following classes on Aug. 10 and 17 will meet from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The final class will meet from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.

Embark on your journey into the world of directing with our beginner-friendly workshop, where we prioritize both the art of directing and mental well-being. Tailored for aspiring directors 16 and up, our program integrates discussions on mental health alongside essential directing skills.

Learn the fundamental principles and techniques necessary for stepping into the director's chair while also gaining insights into maintaining your mental well-being in a demanding industry. From understanding script analysis to honing your communication skills with actors, we'll cover everything you need to know to bring your directorial vision to life while prioritizing self-care and resilience. Engage in hands-on exercises, receive personalized guidance, and collaborate with fellow participants to gain practical experience in the art of directing.

Whether you're a novice or have some experience, this workshop is your opportunity to ignite your passion for storytelling, develop essential skills, and nurture your mental health along the way. Join us and unlock your creative potential today!

Join us at the ARTx3 Campus for an exciting theatrical journey with the Kenneth Reams: Arts for Justice Grant-sponsored “Theater for Change” program! Dive into the world of theatre through a series of engaging classes and summer camps, featuring acting, playwriting, stage management, and directing.

This unique opportunity is designed for community members and volunteers of all ages to discover and enhance their theatrical skills while aligning with the inspiring messages and mission of artist Kenneth Reams. Each program consists of four to five classes tailored to specific age groups, ensuring everyone has the chance to hear the artist's story and the magic of theater.

About the Instructor

Patrice D. Williams

Actress and arts educator Patrice D. Williams is grateful for the amazing opportunity to create art through theater, music, film, and radio for over 20 years. 

Her most notable theatrical roles include Delores in Sister Act, the mayor’s wife in The Music Man, Brenda in Smokey Joe’s Cafe, the stepmother in Into the Woods, Matron “Mama” Mortan in Chicago, and Mrs. Younger in A Raisin in the Sun, just to name a few. 

Patrice was also a featured extra in God’s Not Dead 3, starred in the horror film Babygirl, and was selected as part of the pilot cast for the television series Lela’s Place.

Her directing work includes You're Good Man, Charlie Brown; Midnight at the Black History Museum; The Addams Family; The Golden History Museum of Black Excellence; Beauty and the Beast; and The Voyage.

Patrice holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in teaching theater from Southern Arkansas University, where she was honored with Irene Ryan acting awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for her dramatic performances in No Exit and A Raisin in the Sun

Patrice has a passion for encouraging others to cultivate their own art by writing, teaching, and directing. She has served as the performing arts director for several nonprofit performing arts agencies, and she's currently the Director of Theater for Little Rock Central High School.

When she’s not on the main stage, Patrice is performing in her biggest and most rewarding role of all time, and that’s wife and mom to her two “M”s, Marvin and Myles.
